‘Quedar’ to express what is left or remaining
In Spanish, ‘quedar’ can be used to express what remains or is left. The basic structure is:
“Quedar” + subject = “[amount] remains/is left”
It is commonly used with indirect object pronouns (me, te, le, nos, os, les) to show who has/there is something left. The verb agrees with what remains (the subject of the sentence).
Here are some examples:
- Me quedan 5 dólares = I have 5 dollars left
- ¿Cuánta gente quedó? = How many people remained?
- No queda nada = Nothing is left
- Quedaban tres días = There were three days left
- Nos quedaban tres días de vacaciones = We had three days of vacation left
